Description
Powerpoint Presentation: Handball injury prevention and rehabilitation
Handball injuries are quite common, and most acute injuries occur in the lower extremities, such as ankle and knee sprains. The most common overuse injuries are in the shoulder, knee and lower leg. More injuries are recorded in match play than during training sessions.
Handball is a high-intensity sport with frequent physical contact between players. Matchplay involves high-speed running forwards, backwards as well as sideways, plant and cutting movements, jumps, landings, turns, and repeated acceleration and deceleration movements.
High loads are placed on the shoulder in handball. Repeated passes and throws increase the risk of overuse injury. The shoulder needs to have strength, stability and extreme mobility at the same time. Other body parts can also sustain an injury. Many handball players injure their knee, ankle and back. Ankle sprains are common, every handball player can expect at least one during their playing career.
